President's Message 2013

As we wind down 2012 we remember the events and people who helped make our 25th anniversary one to remember. To all of our community partners, police partners, the media and the citizens of London, Elgin and Middlesex, thank you for making our program one of the best and most successful programs for the past 25 years. We did many things to commemorate this banner year but hosting the RCMP Musical Ride was the highlight of our celebration.

Looking forward we will be working more closely with the boards of education to educate high school students about bullying and the negative impacts of social media. Of course we will be holding our Student Symposium in the fall. We will continue to participate in Racing Against Drugs with grade 5 students. Our outreach to seniors carries on about issues they face such as unscrupulous companies trying to take their money. We will be undertaking some new initiatives to raise awareness of Crime Stoppers in high risk areas. We will promote to those people who have information to give anonymously.

As we get no government funding we remain a fund raising board to support our goals and pay cash rewards to tipsters. Our membership in the Chamber of Commerce will align us with people who can help us get our message out in many ways. We will work with students from local schools and colleges in expanding our technological base to get our messages to an expanded audience. These students will get valued community hours towards graduation. It is important that we partner with tomorrow?s leaders to keep Crime Stoppers current, relative and interesting. Strathroy Caradoc will see us partner during Emergency Services Day where elementary students visit. In Lucan we will have our Show & Shine again. We will continue to hold fund-raisers that have been successful in the past ? Jailathon and the Dean Morrissey Memorial Golf Tournament. In addition we plan to sell rain barrels again this year. We will also repeat our Document Destruction day at Masonville.

We have agreed to host the 2015 Ontario Association of Crime Stoppers Conference in our area. This year will see us begin the preliminary planning towards holding this event.

We continue to involve our communities and with that community support we look forward to an exciting 2013.
