The London Humane Society, London police Service and Crime Stoppers wish to remind the public that with the arrival of winter and freezing temperatures, we need to take extra precautions with out animal companions. Animal extremities, particularly ears, tail and paws are at great risk of frostbite. Cats, puppies and short-haired dogs should all be kept inside during cold weather. Even long-haired dogs should remain inside most of the time. Never leave animals outdoors overnight or during the day if you’re not home.
Winter weather is extremely changeable and temperatures can dip dangerously low in a short space of time. Canada’s anti-cruelty laws require that animals be provided with adequate shelter and care. Cats seeking heat on a cold winter’s day have been known to crawl up into the engine blocks of cars. To prevent serious or fatal injuries, bang on the hood of your vehicle, or honk the horn prior to starting the vehicle may prevent this tragedy from occurring.

In nice weather you may be tempted to take your pet with you in the car while you travel or do errands. But during warm weather, the inside of your car can reach 120 degrees in a matter of minutes, even if you’re parked in the shade. This can mean real trouble for your companion animals left in the car. Dogs and cats can’t perspire and can only dispel heat by panting and through the pads of their feet. Pets that are left in hot cars even briefly can suffer from heat exhaustion, heat stroke, brain damage, and can even die. Don’t think that just because you’ll be gone “just a minute” that your pet will be safe while you’re gone; even an air conditioned car with the motor off isn’t healthy for your pet. To avoid any chance that your pet will succumb to the heat of a car this summer, be sure to play it safe. Crime Stoppers, along with the London Humane Society wish to remind the public; leave your pet cool and refreshed at home.

Over recent years, marihuana grow operations have been on the increase within our community and out-lying areas.
The utilization of residential homes and industrial areas for these operations are often hard to detect. Some of the indicators in detecting these operations include unkempt exteriors, erratic pedestrian and vehicle traffic, blacked-out or boarded windows, condensation on windows, lack of garbage, and an odour emanating from the building.
In some cases, the hydro has been illegally bypassed.
These operations present a considerable fire and explosion hazard to the neighbourhoods where they are located.

In 2009, in the City of London, there were in excess of 1300 motor vehicles stolen. There are numerous ways to protect your automobile from theft. Lock your car. Park your car in well lit areas with plenty of pedestrian traffic if possible. Do not leave property visible within your car. Never leave your car running unattended. Nothing is easier to steal than a car unlocked with the keys in the ignition. It is also against a City of London Bylaw. Install and use an audible alarm or an ignition disabling device. The London Humane Society, London Police Service and Crime Stoppers wish to remind the public that with the arrival of winter and freezing temperatures, we need to take extra precautions with our animal companions.

Pets that are left in hot cars even briefly can suffer from heat exhaustion, heat stroke, brain damage, and even die.
